I have split this recipe into 6 portions as you usually use it with either taco shells, casserole, salad, or anything else, but in general, you do not have to be counting the carbs at all for this recipe.

What can Taco Meat be used for?

This Best Homemade Ground Beef Taco Meat Recipe is so versatile, that you can double or triple the recipe, store it in the freezer and use it for so many additional recipes. It is a perfect addition to your Keto Meal Plan as it is simple to make and use for whatever recipe you choose. 

But in general, you can use it for

Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas, Fiber Tortillas, Walking Tacos, Keto Wraps, Tostada, Chalupa. 

You can also add a bit of tomato sauce or a paste and it into our Keto Spaghetti, for a perfect spaghetti bolognese.

How To Cook Taco Meat on the Stove?

This recipe is made on the stove, as I found it the easiest. But below I have an option for you to make it in an Instant Pot or a Crock-Pot.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON BEST HOMEMADE GROUND BEEF TACO MEAT RECIPE

First Step: Ingredients for Taco Meat

Prepare your Ground meat, in our case, it is ground beef. 

You can also choose from chicken, turkey, fish, ground pork, venison, or ground bison.

Homemade Taco Seasoning can be made in minutes using our Recipe. 

You can also use Taco Seasoning Packets, but if you are following keto or low-carb, read the label and make sure it does not have some hidden carbs.

Second Step: Heat Up the Skillet

Heat a large skillet over medium heat.

Add a bit of Extra virgin Olive Oil.

Third Step: Cooking Taco Meat 

Once your skillet is hot, add all the ground beef and start cooking taco meat, mixing it from time to time until all the meat is fully brown.

This should take approximately 10 – 15 minutes.

Fourth Step: Taco Seasoning

When your ground beef is brown, switch the heat off and add homemade taco seasoning.

Mix it all and you are done.

Switching off the skillet before adding Mexican spices is important, as it contains smoked paprika, which can become bitter in contact with direct heat. 

Once everything is mixed and all the spices are incorporated, you can switch the heat on and cook it for another 5 minutes.

Leftover grease – if you do not like the grease left after cooking, you can drain and store it for later use.

Can I make Taco Meat in an Instant Pot?

You can pick your Instant Pot to make it a perfectly easy Instant Pot Taco Meat Recipe. 

Switch the Instant Pot to Sauté, add oil and brown the meat. Switch the Sauté option off and add spices. You can add a bit of Bone Broth and switch Instant Pot on pressure for 5 minutes. 

Can I make taco meat in a Crock-Pot?

If you prefer using a Crock-Pot or a Slow Cooker, this option is also possible and again super easy.

Just add all the ingredients to a crockpot and cook on high for a couple of hours. Switch on low for a couple more hours until Your Taco Party is starting. In this case, you do not even need to brown the meat first.

Can Taco Meat be made ahead?

Taco Meat can be made in advance without any problem. It is one of the best recipes to use for Meal Planning as it could be stored and used whenever needed.

What to do with leftover Taco Meat?

With leftover taco meat, you can make various Taco recipes, I have mentioned above such as Taco Casserole, Tacos, Taco Soup, Taco Salad, or Taco Cups

How long can Taco Meat stay in the fridge?

Stored in an airtight container, this cooked Taco meat can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days. Longer, I would suggest freezing it. 

Can Taco Meat be Frozen?

Already prepared taco meal can be easily frozen and that is the best way of storing it, at least for me.

You can simply fill your Ziploc bags, get the air out using a stray and freeze for up to 6 months. 

I prefer to use smaller Ziploc bags for a perfect serving size, which I then use for my keto Meal Planning.
