Homemade Keto Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips
I know, I know you are saying:
“Why on earth would I need to make my own Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips, when I have them in almost every shop”.
Living in the US, you might.
Being able to order from Amazon, you might get whatever brand you like. There are so many of them already and new ones are popping up every month.
But,
But if you are living remotely, or in Europe like me, to get a Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips is like looking for a single needle in a haystack.
Or you are just looking at the price of those store bought Chocolate Chips. Unbelievable.
And if you double the recipe, you can as well have a Homemade Keto Dark Chocolate Bar.
Why do you need to make those Homemade Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips?
Because, just so, they are:
- Sugar-Free – No spike in your Blood Sugar
- Quick and Easy – Super easy to make
- Affordable – you save lots of money
- Decadent– Exceptional, Splendid, Extravagant, Luxurious – do I need to say more?
- Keto – That is the lifestyle we are all after
- Guilt-Free – With almost No Carbs per serving and only 22 calories for chocolate? That’s why.
I could not as well. But as per the calculations, I have made with MyFitnessPal, taking into the consideration Allulose Carbs being 0 Net Carbs, the whole Recipe (6 servings – 1 Tbsp each) has got a Total of 1 g of Carbs and 3 Grams of Fiber.
How awesome is that?
Making Homemade Keto Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips, you can use various Sweeteners or Sugar Substitutes.
For this particular r
You can also use Erythritol or Stevia if you prefer or have only those at home.
With Erythritol, you have to take into consideration that you might slightly taste the texture of the sweetener because it does not fully dissolve as a normal sugar does.
Allulose adds the smoothness into the Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips and that is exactly what we are looking for.
Allulose is a perfect substitute in Low Carb and Keto baking especially if you are Diabetic as my daughter is.
It does not intervene with blood sugar or your insulin levels.
Allulose does not give you bloating, or stomach issues, if eaten in greater amounts, as Erythritol or Xylitol would.
Allulose is a low calorie sweetener which bakes and freezes exactly as normal sugar does.
Its sweetness is about 70% sweet compared to the normal sugar, so keep this in mind when using it.
Always add a bit more if you are trying to bake with recipes using normal sugar.
To answer the question if Allulose is Ok for Keto or Low Carb Lifestyle, I can confidently say 99% yes. There should always be that 1% of what if.
It is very similar compared with Erythritol, because of its absorption through the blood streams and therefore not raising your Blood Sugar.
What Flavors of Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips can you make?
After I made this recipe for the first time, I just wanted to make it even more adventurous.
I have thought of few additional flavors you can experiment with:
- Mint – Add few drops of Peppermint oil
- Spicy – Few drops of Tabasco depending on your spiciness intake and allowance
- Peanut Butter – Replace Cacao with Peanut Butter or nut butter of your choice
- Berry – Powder your Freeze Dried Berries in a coffee Grinder and add them in
Do you need Silicone Mold for making Chocolate Chips?
If you do not have the silicone mold for chocolate chips, it is not a problem.
Here are a few options you can choose from:
- Other Silicone Mold – using any of the flat silicone molds you have, bread loaf, chocolate bars mold, or protein bars making
mold , just use those. Smaller and with ridges on the side are the best, since you can pour it and make them thicker – higher. - Parchment paper – Baking tray covered with parchment paper works great as well. Once they cool down and harden, you can break them with a sharp knife.
- Piping Bag – Let the melted chocolate thicken a bit, pour it into the piping bag with the thinnest opening, and plop little chips onto a parchment paper.
How to make a Double Boiler?
Using a double Boiler is the best choice for making chocolates from scratch without burning ingredients. How to make a double boiler might be for some very basic without need of explanation.
There are still so many people who have never used a double boiler and for those I have two choices here.
Cooking countertop
Simple and old version of making your own homemade double boiler is just placing one pot with a little bit of boiling water onto the stove.
Switch the heat on the low to keep the water bubbling.
On top of the pot, place either a pot which fits onto one another without touching the water or a glass bowl that fits the opening of the pot again without touching the boiling water.
Instant pot
Since I have discovered that an Instant Pot could be used as a double boiler this is my preferred option.
It is easy to use and you can use it and place it anywhere in the kitchen.
You can also use Instant Pot for a party when you’re planning to make a fondue.
To use an Instant Pot, pour boiling water into it and set the settings into Sauté.
This will keep the boiling water warm. On top of the opened Instant Pot, place a glass bowl which fits the opening without touching the base as you see in our Video.
This perfectly acts as a double boiler for whenever you need it like for example our Sugar-Free Chocolate Chip making.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOMEMADE SUGAR-FREE CHOCOLATE CHIPS
First Step: Prepare Ingredients
Prepare all of your ingredients for a quick and easy assembling.
At the same time prepare your double boiler on the stove and set it to low heat.
You can also use an Instant Pot with a glass bowl as you see in our video.
Using an Instant Pot, pour the boiling water in and set it on sauté to keep the water hot.
On top of the opened Instant Pot, place a glass bowl.
Instant pot is my best double boiler since I have discovered this option.
Second Step: Melt Cocoa Butter
Once your double boiler is set, place a cocoa butter into the glass bowl and let it melt fully.
When buying cocoa butter, I always prefer the smallest pieces possible. They melt easy and fast.
You can also buy cocoa butter as a big chunk, which might be a preferred option when you are looking at the price or using the cocoa butter at all times.
The big chunk might be a bit cheaper option but it is very difficult to cut the exact amount you need.
Third Step: Add Sweetener
Once your cocoa butter is melted fully, add your sweetener in our case Allulose. Using a silicone spatula mix it fully in until it dissolves.
Fourth Step: Add Cocoa
When both cocoa butter and Allulose melts together and fully dissolves add Cocoa powder and start incorporating that into the mixture.
Make sure it is fully mixed and blended smoothly.
Fifth Step: Vanilla Extract
Adding Vanilla Extract is optional but it adds into the flavor of our homemade sugar-free chocolate chip greatly.
You can also make your own Homemade Vanilla Extract if you have not done it yet.
Sixth Step: Pour and refrigerate
Depending on your silicone mold, pour the melted chocolate onto the mold and make sure all the chocolate is spread evenly.
As you see in the video, our chocolate chips mold has got really tiny tiny holes which I need to incorporate the melted chocolate into with a silicone spatula otherwise they will not be poured fully in.
But if you’re using a bigger chocolate chip mold this might not be a problem at all.
Place into the refrigerator and let it cool and hardened fully.
You can also place it into the freezer in case you need the chips immediately. Depending on the size they should be hardened within 10 minutes.
Seventh Step: Pop
Once your Sugar Free Chocolate Chips are fully hardened, pop them out of the silicone mold and store them either in a Mason Jar or an Airtight Container in your refrigerator.
Tips and Tricks:
Baking purpose – For baking with those Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips, I would suggest using a bigger size chips mold, to prevent full melt in the oven.
Don’t have silicone form? – Not a problem. Just spread them onto any silicone flat form or a parchment paper baking tray and break them later on using a sharp knife. You can also place melted chocolate into a piping bag with the thinnest opening and plop little chips onto a parchment paper
Using Erythritol – If you do not have Allulose on hand, you can as well use Erythritol. Just bear in mind, that you might be able to taste the texture of the erythritol a tiny bit, simply because Erythritol does not dissolve the way sugar does.
Silicone Mold – I suggest purchasing at least 2 pieces, for much faster process
Cocoa butter – can become grainier if heated up at a very high temperature. Therefore a double boiler is always suggested. Also, be careful of water. It should not get into contact with cocoa butter, otherwise, it will not melt smoothly.

Not far from me Dana,
I am based in Wien and I know exactly what you are talking about
Hello. I’m attempting to make this but having a problem. How long should it take for the allulose to dissolve in the cocoa butter? I’ve been stirring for ten minutes and it does not seem to be dissolving at all.
It should dissolve immediately. Could you maybe try another brand?
I was wondering if you could use this recipe to make chocolate bars too.
For sure can
I’m wondering if I could add heavy cream powder or coconut milk powder to make it more of a milk chocolate? Would you add that t the same time as the cocoa powder? I’ve ordered my mould so I can’t wait to try this recipe! Even here in the States, it’s too expensive to buy the bags of choc chips!
I am sure you can use the powder cream as well as milk, but I have not tried it as it is not available where I live. You would have to try it yourself, but I believe those two ingredients need to be melted and not sure if adding cocoa powder will not make it very heavy to melt. I would add it one by one and make sure each is melted fully.
Hi! I’m hoping to make this recipe tomorrow. I don’t have allulose. I have monk fruit and I have ethritol as well as xylitol. Can I substitute monk fruit? Which would you recommend?
I would for sure advise for Monk Fruit over Erythritol. Erythritol in most cases re-crystalize after cooling down and you might feel that.
