Keto Bolognese Sauce

As I have made Bolognese sauce for the first time, I immediately got hooked. 

This was a sauce I could not keep for myself only. Have to share it with all of you.  Plus all the details and ideas to what everything you can use it for.

And there our Stuffed Zucchini Bites came in together with Spaghetti bolognese. 

But that is not the end. Following comes Stuffed Tomatoes, Stuffed Bell Peppers, aubergine, and any veggies you can think of. 

Keto Meal Plan

All of those recipes are a perfect idea for your meal planning. All you have to do is cook a big batch of the bolognese sauce and fill all the veggies you can think of. Store it in your fridge or a freezer and you have a meal for the next 2 weeks.

Are Mushrooms Keto Friendly?

Mushrooms are one vegetable, that is not only a perfect addition to the keto lifestyle but is extremely healthy, low in calories and fat, and of course, containing minimal carbs. 
With even this tiny amount of carbs, half of it is fiber.
And now you know why they should be a part of your daily diet.

How many carbs are in Stuffed Mushrooms?

As I have used for our recipe half of the bolognese sauce, together with 20 pieces of mushrooms, you get for one stuffed mushroom 2 grams of total carbs. 
And if you deduct that 1 g of fiber one bite gets you to 1 gram of net carbohydrates in mushroom. 

Isn’t that awesome?

What else can you stuff mushrooms with? 

As you have probably decided by now, that it would not be a bad idea to have those great vegetables in your freezer at all times, you might start to think of different variations.

I will give you just a few Stuffed Mushrooms Inspirations:

How to make Keto Stuffed Mushrooms Appetizer?

  • Minced Beef
  • Diced Bacon
  • Diced Fresh Celery

  • Tomato Sauce
  • Heavy Cream
  • Fresh Oregano
  • Fresh Marjoram
  • Grated Cheese

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON GROUND BEEF KETO STUFFED MUSHROOMS

First Step: Stuffed Mushrooms Ingredients

Prepare all of your ingredients beforehand. 

For mushrooms, try to pick mushrooms that are similar in size.

For Bolognese Sauce, dice your onion, garlic, bacon, and celery. 

Fresh herbs should be cut into small pieces as well.

Second Step: Cook Keto Bolognese Sauce

Start with your onion and garlic. Place them into a cooking pot sprinkled with olive oil and caramelize for few minutes. 

Once caramelized, add bacon and minced meat, mix and cook for 15 minutes. 

Add diced fresh celery, herbs, salt & pepper, and mix and cook for another 10 minutes.

As of last add tomato sauce and heavy cream and fully combine.

If you can manage to make bolognese sauce the night before, the best. Overnight, the flavors of the sauce combine, and the whole sauce thickens fully, which is the best for filling your veggies.

Third Step: Cover and Cook Keto Bolognese Sauce

Cover with the lid and cook for approximately 40 minutes at a medium temperature.

How to make Bolognese

Fourth Step: Clean and Chop Mushroom Stems

Fully wash or clean your mushrooms. 

To avoid mushrooms becoming soggy, towel-dry them before stuffing. 

Take out all of the stems. You can add chopped mushroom stems into your mixture as this will still bake together in the oven.

At the same time Preheat your oven to 200C or 400F.

Fifth Step: Stuff Your Mushrooms

Place your Mushrooms Cups either onto the casserole or a baking sheet.

Stuff each mushroom with your bolognese sauce mixture and top up each of the mushrooms with grated cheese.

Sixth Step: Bake

Bake at 200C or 400F for approximately 20 minutes. 

Tips and Tricks

Avoid sogginess – Towel dry mushrooms after washing otherwise they might become soggy

Stems – do not throw stems from mushrooms. Cut them up and add them into the filling.

Reheat – do not microwave if you need reheating. It will get the mushrooms soggy. Better place them into the oven for a few minutes. 

Size – Try to pick the same size mushrooms to have them cooked all at the same time.

How do you bake stuffed mushrooms in an Air Fryer?

Instead of an oven, you can make stuffed mushrooms in the Air Fryer as well. Place them into the Air Fryer Basket and cook for 8 minutes on 200C or 400F. 

How do your store Stuffed Mushrooms?

Once your stuffed mushrooms are baked, let them cool and store them in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

I like to store them in a glass container with a lid. 

Can you freeze stuffed mushrooms?

You can certainly freeze them. Once you are ready to use the stuffed mushrooms, it is best to take them out of the freezer the night before and let them thaw naturally. 

For reheating, place them into the oven for few minutes.

  • 20 Small Mushrooms white and brown
  • 1 Cup Minced Beef
  • 0,5 Cup Diced Bacon
  • 1/2 Cup Diced Fresh Celery
  • 1 Small Onion
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • 1/3 Cup Tomato Sauce
  • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Fresh Oregano
