Is Curry Keto?

Do not expect to have a keto curry in an Indian restaurant. 

But curry can be keto-friendly if you make it with low-carb ingredients and avoid adding high-carb thickeners such as flour or cornstarch. You can use coconut milk or cream as a base instead of heavy cream or yogurt.

Our recipe is fully keto with the best ingredients to lower the carb content as much as possible.

How Many Carbs Are in Best Keto Coconut Curry Chicken?

As I have picked all of the ingredients that are low in carbs, the amount of carbs is minimal. 

Our recipe makes 4 portions with total of 1 gram of carbs per serving.

Chicken curry made with coconut milk and cream has a higher calorie count than yogurt or low-fat milk. One serving of chicken curry contains around 180 calories, but you can reduce the calorie count by using lean cuts of chicken and low-carb vegetables.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR DELICIOUS KETO CURRY

First Step: Prepare Ingredients

Prepare all ingredients for easy cooking. Chop onion and crush garlic. Clean and cut the chicken breast into smaller pieces.

Second Step: Roast Herbs and Spices

Start by heating your cooking pan. Add oil and let it warm. Add the onion, crushed garlic and let it caramelize. 

Add all the mild curry powder and let the spices roast with oil to enhance the flavor.

Third Step: Chicken and Sauce

Add chicken pieces and let them cook thoroughly. Once the chicken is cooked, add canned coconut cream and full-fat coconut milk and let the curry simmer for 5 to 10 minutes until the sauce is thickened.

Serve with freshly chopped cilantro.

TIPS AND TRICKS TO MAKE THIS RECIPE:

  • Oil – You can use coconut oil instead of olive oil to give additional coconut flavor. 
  • Curry – you can make your own using our curry spices powder recipe or use a store-bought Indian curry mix or curry paste. 
  • Fresh ginger – add extra crushed garlic and ginger for more flavor.

Yes, chicken curry can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator or freezer. It is a great meal prep option for busy weekdays or when you prefer to avoid cooking. To reheat, heat the curry in a saucepan over medium heat.

How Do I Store This Easy Keto Friendly Curry?

To store leftover keto-friendly chicken curry, let it cool to room temperature and transfer it to an airtight container. You can keep it in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. 

Can I Freeze Coconut Chicken Curry?

Yes, you can freeze the curry coconut chicken for later use. Let the curry cool to room temperature and transfer it to an airtight container or a freezer-safe zip-top bag. 

Make sure to label the container with the date and contents. You can keep the curry in the freezer for up to 3 months. 

Thaw the curry in the refrigerator overnight and reheat it in a saucepan over medium heat until heated.
