Instructions

  • Prepare all of the herbs and spices needed for the mix. Make sure you measure them correctly as per the recipe to get the best flavors.
  • For the beauty of layering, I have started with sweet paprika, garlic, black pepper, onion flakes, and chilli powder.
  • Continue layering cumin, brown sugar, salt, oregano, and cinnamon.
  • Using a small whisk or a spoon, gently but thoroughly mix all the spices into one blend. Make sure you break all the lumps, which you might encounter, especially with sweet paprika.
  • Once thoroughly combined and mixed, store your seasoning in a glass spice container.

Notes

  • Herbs - pick the freshest herbs possible. If you have not dried them, try to buy bio-quality or from a trusted source.
  • Portions - whole recipe yields 6 tablespoons. The nutritional calculation is for 3 portions, each 2 tablespoons. If you need more, certainly double or triple the amount of each. A double portion is about 1 cup.
  • Amount of spice used - recommended serving size is about 2 tablespoons of mixture for a pound of beef or chicken.
  • Spiciness - depending on whether the kids are are in the house, you can add or subtract the chilli powder.
  • Pestle and mortar - this favorite kitchen tool is great to use just before using the seasoning to break out the flavors even more.
