Notes

  • Cheese Blocks – always buy cheese blocks if possible. As I've mentioned several times in our recipes, using pre-shredded cheese is not the best idea. Most store-bought shredded cheeses are coated in starch, so they don't go old and moldy in plastic bags. By shredding or grating your cheese directly before cooking, you will not only get the freshest cheese you can imagine, but you will know that there is nothing else in there except pure cheese.
  • Crispiness – every oven is different; therefore, I suggest watching your chips. They can either burn very fast, or the process might take a bit longer. Just check it out. If the chips aren't crispy after cooling, keep them in the oven a bit longer next time.
  • Type of cheese – You can use any hard cheese. Depending on your preference, pick two of your favorites. Cheddar gives you that perfect orange look and a unique cheese-crispy taste, so I always choose it as the main base. Another variety depends on what we have at home at the time. I prefer Emmental cheese, and it's usually in the fridge.
  • Bacon – pre-baked or not does matter. If the bacon is raw, you don't have to pre-bake it since it will bake anyway during the oven baking process. You can use other cooking methods for your bacon the way you want.
