Winter Immunity booster favorites
For years, whenever the autumn comes and I start being cold, my kitchen turns into a homemade natural booster corner.
I start drinking ginger tea with lemon every single morning, preparing garlic soup and healthy bone broth for my whole family, and adding as many fermented vegetables to our daily diet as I could.
Usually, by then, my fermented dill pickles and pickled daikon are ready to be eaten, and I make sure I add turmeric to every meal I prepare to boost our immune systems.
From time to time, I mix small wellness shots for us, which we then enjoy daily.
Ginger and turmeric shot
One of them is our ginger turmeric energy shot recipe, which I would like to share with you.
When we lived in Dubai, my mum used to make this shot for us regularly using fresh turmeric root together with fresh ginger root, which was easily available in all of the supermarkets.
But as we moved back to Europe, I realized that getting fresh organic turmeric is a difficult task.
And therefore, I have started substituting it with dry turmeric powder, which we bring every year from our Dubai holidays.
And Dubai was where one of my dear friends from India told me to add a pinch of black pepper and oil to our shots for additional benefits. She has explained how black pepper and fat help absorb turmeric.
There was nothing else I needed to know. I have added it in, and that’s how it stayed.

“We’ve made this every week and keep cute little bottles in the fridge and drink one daily. They’re definitely peppy! I think they’ve made a significant difference in my health and pain levels, so I thought I’d share the recipe again with my testimonial. “

Turmeric and ginger shot immunity boosters
I used to make our shots once or twice a year, either when I felt I needed a bit of a boost or when everyone around us started being sick.
But I had never thought of sharing this recipe with you, as I thought it was something we had done even before our transformation to the low-carb lifestyle and was not a part of it.
But as I mixed one bottle for us last week, I thought of my blog.

Why not share everything with you.

Our ginger turmeric energy shot consists of 5 best-ever ingredients you can give to your body.
And thanks to our lives in the Middle East for a very long time, we have become accustomed to those spices and use them regularly even now when we all have moved back to Europe.
5 ingredients to make your own ginger turmeric immunity shot:
- Ginger
- Turmeric
- Lemon
- Black pepper
- Fat
Ginger
Ginger roots have been used as a spice and medicine for centuries. Coming from the family of Zingiberaceae, where turmeric and cardamom are also included, there can not be anything better.
Just taking those three spices together, you get a fantastic combination of the best-ever addition to the meals your kitchen can have.
Ginger is a natural antioxidant and may assist as an anti-inflammatory and antiviral. (source)
Turmeric
Turmeric, which is another root coming from the same family of Zingiberaceae, is another one of my most popular spices.
Not only because of its health benefits but also because of the neutral taste and the beautiful color you get. Adding Curcuma or turmeric to anything you like will transform your dish into a beautiful deep orange feast.
Dry turmeric is also used as a natural coloring agent, and you can experiment with it.
Turmeric, very similar to ginger, has powerful anti-inflammatory benefits and acts as a fantastic antioxidant (source)
Lemon
Lemon is great to use instead of water to help with our shot. With an unbelievable amount of Vitamin C and being very low in carbohydrates, lemons are a great addition to our lifestyle and should be used as much as possible.
Black pepper
Black pepper is added to our ginger turmeric energy shot for greater absorption of turmeric.
Would you believe the absorption can be increased by up to 2,000% because of the Piperine compound?
Black pepper helps to increase the compounds in the curcumin, which is a part of turmeric roots. It supports healthy stomach acid secretion, which helps us dearly with our digestion.
Fat
Fat is the last ingredient that helps with the absorption of curcumin. I have chosen Extra Virgin olive oil as it is our favorite fat use, but you can also select butter, pork lard, coconut oil, or any fat you prefer.
Turmeric Ginger shots benefits.
A morning drink will replace the vitamin C supplements many people take. Naturally, adding vitamins to your body early in the morning enhances your nutrients and gives you a boost without having to take caffeinated drinks.
Benefits of ginger
Ginger, on its own, contains a natural anti-inflammatory compound called gingerol, responsible for alleviating joint and muscle pain.
At the same time, ginger calms the tummy and helps with migraines and morning or motion sicknesses.
Benefits of Turmeric
Turmeric, similar to ginger, is one of the most popular herbs used in old times. It helps increase antioxidants and is used as an anti-inflammatory supplement.
Does the lemon ginger turmeric shot taste good?
I have to tell you that this is not a cocktail you want to have during your evening out.
But as I expect from a drink shot, which is supposed to boost my immune system, something pretty strong, that’s what it is.
It is sour thanks to the lemons, a bit spicy from the ginger, powdered turmeric, and black pepper.
But I love it. I love the taste of ginger and lemon together. I love that little powdered feeling when I shake the bottle before drinking it.
My daughter loves it as well, which I have not expected.
So to tell you frankly. It is not the best, but we love it.
We always have a jar in the fridge and take a shot first thing after waking up.
And if you can not drink it for some strange reason, add a bit of sweetener or lemon and orange juice without pulp and blend it into a smoothie with nut milk.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON MAKING THE BEST GINGER SHOT RECIPE
First step: Prepare ingredients
Prepare all of the ingredients for easy assembly.
Juice the lemons. Peel the ginger and turmeric, and slice them if you have them both fresh. Get the powdered turmeric and powdered ginger, if fresh is unavailable, as well as pepper.
Second step: Lemon, ginger, pepper, and turmeric
Prepare your Magic Bullet or any other grinder you have at home.
Using a blender or bullet, pour lemon juice in, and add ginger slices, turmeric, and black pepper.
Third step: Add olive oil and mix
Add a spoonful of olive oil or your fat choice into the glass. Close the jar of the magic bullet and mix it all thoroughly until a smooth consistency.
If you prefer, you can strain the drink through cheesecloth at this time.
Feel free to use sieve and let run your drink through a cheese cloth. But to me, all healthiness will be thrown away, and it should be left within the turmeric and lemon juice.
Fourth step: Pour and enjoy
Once all is thoroughly mixed, pour it either into one just or single-shot glass jars, which you can store in your refrigerator.
Shake well before use for the leftover pulp to mix in.
Make a large bottle, but drink it like a shot.
Tips and tricks
- Fresh turmeric – you can use fresh turmeric instead of powdered one if you have easy access to it. I have chosen the powdered version, as I see, in our case, how difficult it is to find fresh Turmeric around here.
- Fat – you can use any fat you prefer to boost the absorption of turmeric. I have chosen Extra Virgin olive oil as it is our favorite fat, but you can also select butter, pork lard, coconut oil, or any fat you prefer.
- Strain – If you do not like the thickness of our energy drink, you can strain it after the mixing if you prefer. Bear in mind, though, that the strength of the drink will be a bit milder as I believe pepper, as well as dry turmeric powder, is filled with health benefits and straining it will lose its potency. We do not have a problem with it; all we do is shake the bottle before drinking it to get all the yumminess in.
- Cayenne – adding a bit of cayenne pepper is a great addition.
- Magic bullet – if you do not have a magic bullet or instead of a juicer, you can make this in a blender.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Black pepper enhances turmeric’s absorption by up to 2 thousand percent because of the compound called piperine, which it contains.
Suppose you do not have a high-speed blender, no worry. You can use a magic bullet, as I have done, or use a juicer.
When should you take immunity drink shots?
It is up to you to take your shots. The best is daily and at similar times every day. I prefer to take my shots early on an empty stomach, as I know I get all the benefits in the morning. Everything works faster and stronger on an empty stomach.
But if you are trying it for the first time, take a small amount on an empty stomach and see how you feel.
How many turmeric lemon shots a day can you take?
It is suggested to take only one shot a day as the amount of healthiness in one shot is enough to supply you for the rest of the day.
But a second shot in the evening is also excellent if you feel unwell or want to boost your immune system even more.
Can you take a turmeric wellness shot on an empty stomach?
Ginger helps stimulate your digestion, and as ginger tea or turmeric tea is the best to drink first thing in the morning, your healthy energy shot would be as well.
You have to ensure you do not have any problems with its consumption on an empty stomach.
If you have not done that before, take a small amount for a few days and see how you feel.
Are ginger shots good for colds?
Our ginger turmeric energy shots recipe is not only great for boosting your immune system but do helps in mild colds, flu, or inflammation.
How long do ginger shots last?
The homemade ginger shot should last 4-5 days as long as it is properly stored in the fridge.
You can also freeze the shots if you want to store them for longer.
Can you freeze the ginger turmeric energy shots?
You can easily freeze our wellness shots for longer shelf life. Pour it into the ice cube trays, and you can store it inside the freezer for 6 months up to a year.
All you have to do is defrost one cube whenever you need it. In the summer, you can take a few of the ice cubes and add them into a jar with water to have a perfectly mild energy drink for your guest during a summer party, for example.

I only have ginger powder. How many grams should I use?
Dear Donna,
I have not used the powdered version as yet, but I would suggest the same as Turmeric, which is approx. 1/4 tsp per shot.
Do let me know how it went. Really curious.
Would the powdered ginger I have on hand sabotage the effectiveness instead of using fresh? Would like to try this but didn’t want to waste the other ingredients if it doesn’t have the same health benefits. Thanks!!
Dear Tracy,
As you do not have the fresh Ginger, I would add the powdered version in. I have personally not tried it this way, but you would still have all of the benefits of the best spices combined together. Of course, the fresh is fresh and will be better, but no worry.
I successfully grow fresh tumeric and ginger in flower pots and bring them inside when the weather changes in the fall. Been doing this for 2 yrs. Harvest up to one pound of each yearly and still have plenty left replant. I googled how and they grew beautifully. Fresh tastes best!! Try it.
Woho, that is a great idea Suzie,
I have never thought of growing them at home. I need to look into it.
Going to try your recipe! Where did you get your cork stop glass bottles? The amazon ones aren’t quite the same. Thank you!
I have got them years ago in one simple shop. But tell you frankly, they are great for photos, but I would prefer something a bit bigger for daily use. Also, those cork stops (on my photos), do not really hold fully.
How much liquid per bottle to you put in?
For one serving it is approximatelly 20ml
Awesome, I used fresh tumeric and lovely fresh ginger.
Yum
You say cayenne pepper is a great alternative, but alternative to what?
meant addition. Already repaired. Thanks for spotting that.
Hello!
Is it possible to replace the lemon juice with orange juice? Are the benefits still the same?
Thank you 🙂
Some people do mix lemon juice together with orange juice for its sweeter flavor. It should be ok, but it will increase the carb intake, incase you are looking at watching your carbs.
How much fresh tumeric not powdered
Depending on your taste buds. I would use same amount as ginger.
Is it 5 tsp of Turmeric or 1 tsp, just not quite clear for me
It is one and a half teaspoons.
