As all of the Christmas Markets have opened, my family and I, love to visit and enjoy the festivity season. It is our tradition to meet up with friends and their kids and visit every weekend one or two locations around Vienna.

The Christmas Markets are magnificent in here and already from the beginning of December you get the urge, where everyone starts thinking of Christmas time.

Once you enter any of the Christmas Markets, the air gets filled up with the aroma of various Mulled Wines and Roasted Chestnuts. It is so irresistible that you want it all in that second. And here comes the problem.

And now you can too. Just follow our recipe and you can enjoy Keto, Sugar-Free Mulled Wine throughout the whole winter.

Make Party, take it to a Party or just fill up your coffee Flask with it and enjoy.

What is a Mulled Wine?

Mulled Wine is a hot wine filled with various spices traditionally served around all of the Christmas Markets in Europe.

Its very popular name Glühwine From German can be translated as a glowing wine because of the warmness and aroma coming from it.

This Heated and spiced beverage also known as glög, vin brule, candola, bisschops winj, or varene vino throughout Europe can not be ignored.

Like Sangria in the summer, it is enhanced with various fruits and spices served boiling hot to replace the ice in the summer.

Mulled Wine Origins

First mentions of a Mulled Wine come from the 2nd Century, where Romans, traveling throughout Europe used to conquer much of it and trade the rest.

It is a very popular festivity beverage during winter because of alcohol together with sugar and heat will keep you warm for hours. Some people add extra Rum, Brandy or any hard alcohol to intensify its flavor and strength.

In our Recipe, I am skipping this part entirely, since hard alcohol, even though is fully Carb-Free, can temporarily disrupt your Ketosis if that is what you are after.

Best Low Carb Wines

Since wine does contain carbs as any other beverages made from grapes, Your body processes them a bit differently as a non alcoholic beverages.

The lowest in carbs is a Dry Champagne, which contains only 1g of carbs to a glass.

For our Lifestyle it is best to choose the Light Bodied Fully Dry White wine followed by Rose as well as Dry Red varieties.

Our Prefered White Wine is either Sauvignon Blanc or a Chardonnay.

Red Wine Varieties, which are more Bolder and a bit heavier on the taste suggestions are Pinot Noir (non-Burgundy) or Cabernet Sauvignon.

Instant Pot Keto Mulled Wine

Having an Instant Pot is a genius Idea not only in this recipe. Instant Pot is one of the best Kitchen Gadgets I have come across in a very long time.

I have chosen Instant Pot for this recipe for various advantages:

  • Quick – It only takes 1 minute to make it ( with a few extra minutes of pressurizing)
  • No stove needed – You really do not need any stove or a boiler in here.
  • Warming up during party – With using an Instant Pot, you can have it switched on Keep Warm throughout the whole party without having to check regularly if the temperature is right.
  • Serving Dish – Using Instant Pot can replace a serving dish or a serving Bowl during your gathering.
  • Movable – Take it with you for the Party, Move it on a Serving Table, place it wherever you wish while having it warm the whole time.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON MAKING THE BEST EVER KETO MULLED WINE

The steps are so quick and easy, that I was even wondering if it needs to be done, but for the sake of some, I am going to mention all to make it even easier.

First Step: Pour Red Wine

Pour your choice of Red wine into the Instant Pot.

Third Step: Citrus Fruits with Cloves

Add ¼ of the Orange as well as Lemon decorated with Cloves.

I find decorating the oranges and lemon with Cloves adds the beautiful Christmassy look to the whole drink.

Fourth Step: Pressure Cook

Close the lid, turn the valve to pressure and switch the Instant Pot to Pressure for 1 minute.

And yes, It only takes 1 minute to make your best and easiest ever Keto Mulled wine.

The process behind is, that it will take approximately 15 minutes for the Instant Pot to fully Pressurize. During this time the wine warms up and combines all of the flavors together. And then only a minute will be needed to get the fully Mulled Wine Ready.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Is Mulled Wine still alcoholic?

Unfortunately, it still is. You would have to boil, bake and simmer the wine for hours for alcohol to disappear. Alcohol Boils at about 178 Degrees Fahrenheit and can adversely affect flavor. To get to almost zero alcohol, you would have to boil it for so long, that the sugar starts to caramelize and burns and only then all of the tannins will break down. But tannins give you the wine flavor and this process will turn the drink into more like off wine. And then it would not be Mulled Wine anymore.

Can you make Mulled wine on the stove top?

You certainly can and I would suggest following the same process and letting the wine simmer at a low temperature for about 20-30 minutes.

Can Keto Mulled Wine be reheated?

It can just try not boiling it. By boiling and reboiling the Mulled wine more alcohol is lost as well as all of the flavor from the spices.

Can Mulled wine be drunk cold?

It can, but in that case, I would rather suggest making a Sangria instead. Cold Mulled wine does not taste really good and does not give you all of the benefits and flavors you have been after making it.

But if you still like it and prefer it cold, serve it fully chilled over ice with a few slices or zest from Orange.

How to sweeten this Keto Drink a bit more?

With our Homemade Sugar-Free Simple Syrup, it is super easy to add a little more sweetness into this marvelous Drink.

Can Keto Mulled wine go Off?

It can as any ordinary wine and that is exactly how I would treat it. Once made, keep it for up to a week, but not more.

How to store Keto Mulled Wine?

First you have to let the Keto Mulled wine cool entirely at a room temperature.

Store it in an Airtight Container or a Bottle in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. I do doubt it will last that long since it is really a great hot beverage and you would normally prepare it for a gathering of friends having over.

I've never had mulled wine before but I love the idea of a warm drink with all the lovely spices in it. I'm going to make this for my friends for the holidays as I'm sure they will love it! Those cups near the end of the post are gorgeous (are they pewter?).

Stacey, you should definitely try it at least once. Mulled wine is a must during winter. It is so so satisfying. And the cups are Indian silver my mum bought a long time ago while living in Dubai. I love them dearly.
