Bacon
With bacon being one of the most important and most favorite parts of the Keto Diet lifestyle, we all try to make sure to include it whenever possible.
Our Bacon Nachos or Cheese Bacon Chips are served almost every week. We add bacon into our Fathead Pizza or even Zucchini Boats.
Sugar-Free Bacon
Did you know many of the brands have sugar in bacon?
Please read your labels and buy only bacon that does not contain sugar.
Twisted Bacon
With the craze of Twisted Bacon, I thought of experimenting with caramelised or candied bacon twists as well.
I mean, tell you frankly, I have never ever in my life tried sweet bacon.
In Europe, it is not popular at all and every time I have heard of it from my US readers, I thought it would be one thing, I will never try. I just could not imagine combining bacon and sweetness. That sweet association was just unimaginable to me.
But as I was making our Twisted Bacon, I thought to myself. Why don’t I give it a try and at least make it for our Readers onto the blog?
Sweet Twisted Bacon
Love how brown sugar caramelizes but also love the maple flavor, so why not combine them both into this bacon deliciousness.
And guess what.
To my surprise, I fell in love with this Maple-glazed Bacon Candy.
I had those Candied Bacon Sticks on the kitchen table for a few days and could not stop nibbling from them until all were gone.
Even my whole family said they are delicious. And they never tried candied bacon before in their life as well.
And as I am writing this recipe for all of you, I can confidently say, we all fell in love with our Candied Bacon Twists and made them already 5 times.
Halloween Bacon Treat
Additionally, as I was taking photos, I realized, this would be a perfect Halloween Treat for everyone around.
Those deeply caramelised Bacon sticks look a bit to me like dark branches from a tree, which could be a great decoration for the scary table you are planning.
If you follow our recipe fully and use one of the Sweeteners Brands for Maple Syrup as well as Brown Sugar, you will get fully Keto and Sugar Free Twisted Bacon Candy.
Our Bacon Twists are made from Sugar-Free Bacon, Sugar-Free Maple Syrup, and Brown Sugar Sweetener.
1 slice of Candied Bacon comes with only 1 gram of carbohydrate ( that is from Sugar Alcohol) and 1g of Fiber.
If we are to get the net carbs, where you deduct fiber from your total carbs, you come to 0 carbs per slice.
When you deduct Sugar Alcohol, you still come to 0 Carbs per portion.
So I can say with full confidence that a slice of this wonderful Keto Candy contains 0 Carb.
Just in case you are not aware, there are some brands of bacon, which contain sugar. I had no idea until I started reading the ingredients.
To answer the question of what type of bacon to use for this perfectly tailored sugar-free bacon twist, you can use any type of bacon as long as it does not contain sugar.
Please read the labels at all times.
What is the best sweetener for Sugar-Free Candied Bacon?
Because I do not have a thick Sugar-Free Maple Syrup, I have decided to mix brown sugar monk fruit sweetener together with maple syrup. In that way I got a perfect thicker texture to spread on bacon as well as that brown sugar caramelization while baking.
In this recipe, I have used Lakanto Products, but have already tried it with Sukrin as well as Besti Sweeteners. They all work fine.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR QUICK AND EASY SUGAR-FREE CARAMELIZED BACON TWISTS
First Step: Prepare all Ingredients
Super simple and easy.
Prepare your bacon – whatever size and thickness you want. Just make sure it does not contain sugar.
Brown Sugar Substitute and Sugar-Free Maple Syrup.
At the same time preheat the oven to 180C or 350F.
As already mentioned, I have used Lakanto Brand, but have tried it with Sukrin as well as Besti and So Nourished. All works fine.
Second Step: Prepare Candied Glaze
As you see, we are using 2 different types of low-carb sweeteners for those Candied Bacon Twists.
Brown Sugar substitute to get that caramelization going and to thicken the maple syrup.
Maple syrup to add the flavor of maple into the bacon.
Place both sweeteners into the small bowl, where you would be able to mix them together.
Those 2 sweeteners need to be fully mixed to be able to equally spread onto the whole bacon slices.
Using the brush, mix both together into one thicker consistency.
Third Step: Spread bacon onto the Board
If you have a wooden board or any other boards, start spreading bacon slices onto it, so they do not touch each other. It will be easy to brush each of the bacon fully and properly.
Fourth Step: Brush mixture onto the bacon
Start from one side. Using your brush, brush the mixture onto all of the bacon slices from one side.
After you are done, turn all of the slices upside down and brush the other side as well.
Make sure all of the mixture is used.
Fifth Step: Twist and place onto the Baking Sheet
Prepare your baking sheet and cover it with Parchment paper.
If you are using only 10 slices as per the recipe, you might not need a full-size sheet.
Start one by one, twisting the bacon using your hand. Twist from each side in the opposite direction.
Once done, gently place the twisted bacon onto the baking sheet covered with Parchment Paper.
Bake at 180 C or 350 F for approximately 30 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of your bacon.
Tips and Tricks
- Bacon – please read the labels and make sure your bacon slices do not contain any sugar
- Sweeteners Brands – As already mentioned, I have used Lakanto Brand, but have tried it with Sukrin as well as Besti and So Nourished. All works fine.
