Sprinkle a teaspoon of granulated garlic on roasted veggies using low-carb vegetables to make them richer and more exciting. It is also perfect on meats like chicken and beef to upgrade the taste of your protein meal.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

Before we dive into making this easy recipe, let me share why granulated garlic is a game-changer for your kitchen:

  1. Intense Flavor Burst – granulated garlic brings an intense and concentrated garlic flavor to your main dishes, offering new heights in flavors.
  2. Convenience – forget the hassle of peeling and mincing garlic cloves repeatedly. With granulated garlic, you get all the taste without the prep work.
  3. Long Shelf Life – once you have made your granulated garlic, store it in an airtight container and enjoy the convenience of having a garlicky flavor booster at your fingertips for months.

Uses Of Granulated Garlic

For a food blogger like me, garlic has many uses, whatever size and texture it might be, as long as it serves its purpose. Here are some of the uses of granulated garlic that you can also do at home.

  • Seasoning for meats – rub granulated garlic onto meats such as chickenbeef, or pork before cooking to infuse them with a savory flavor.
  • Pasta dishes – stir granulated garlic into pasta sauces or sprinkle it over your favorite pasta dishes for extra depth and richness.
  • Garlic bread – mix granulated garlic into softened butter to create a delectable garlic butter spread. Top it on bread loaves before toasting or baking.
  • Egg dishes – sprinkle granulated garlic into scrambled eggs, omelets, cloud eggs or frittatas for a savory kick. It pairs well with various breakfast dishes.

Granulated Garlic And Garlic Powder

Granulated garlic has a coarser texture compared to garlic powder. It consists of small, grainy parts that are equivalent to the texture of sand. While garlic powder has a finer consistency, it is known to be the richest form of garlic.

Granulated garlic and powdered garlic might share a similar purpose in the kitchen: to add a savory taste to our homemade dishes, but they differ in what kind of recipes we cook.

You can use garlic granules for toppings, marinades, soups and stews, and salad dressings. In contrast, you can use a teaspoon of garlic powder in any dish, as it is easy to incorporate into almost anything.

How To Make Granulated Garlic

Here, you will learn how to make homemade granulated garlic from drying garlic in the dehydrator. Follow these simple steps to make a great fresh garlic spice out of dehydrated garlic.

If you like visual instructions, I also prepared a video for this post, and you can learn the recipe in less time.

Kitchen Gadgets Needed:

  • Dehydrator: Use it for drying the sliced garlic cloves. The dehydrator process is essential for further making garlic granules from the dried garlic.
  • Magic Bullet Blender: This gadget is necessary for blending and grinding the garlic to a granule or powder.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Fresh Garlic: Before making this recipe, you will need fresh garlic cloves turned into dried ones.
  • Olive Oil: Use to prevent the garlic slices from sticking into the dehydrator when drying them.

*Exact measurements are listed in the recipe card below.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO GRANULATED GARLIC

First Step: Prepare The Garlic

First things first, prepare the garlic by washing and drying. Slice into small, thin pieces and get your dehydrator ready.

Second Step: Dehydrate The Garlic

Arrange your garlic by spraying some olive oil first in the dehydrator trays, and once finished, assemble all the slices, making tiny spaces from each piece.

Prepare the dehydrator and set the temperature to around 160° Fahrenheit or 70° Celsius. Start drying them for about 6 hours. They are ready to blend once they dry and turn crispy as chips.

Third Step: Blend The Dried Garlic

Prepare your magic bullet blender and start placing the dried garlic into the cup. If you feel more creative, add a small amount of salt or dry herbs to season.

Start blending dried garlic by pulsing for a few seconds, and check if the granule form is perfect enough for you.

Fourth Step: Check The Consistency

When blending the garlic, you have to check occasionally and ensure you will not get a fine powdered one. Since I was using a magic bullet, I double-checked while blending because the dried food would most likely get powdered easily.

Keep them as a pantry staple, and be ready to use them for cooking.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Salt – as I have mentioned, a pinch of salt is optional as it can enhance the taste of the garlic.
  • Pulse – use short pulses rather than continuous blending. This helps achieve a consistent texture without over-processing the garlic.
  • Consistency – after each pulse, check the texture. Aim for a fine, uniform granulation. If needed, shake or stir the contents to ensure even blending.
  • Customize – feel free to customize the granulation based on your preferences. Some prefer a finer consistency, while others like it a bit coarser. It is your garlic, so make it the way you like it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What Is Garlic Salt?

Garlic salt is a seasoning blend of garlic powder and table salt. It is like a mix that brings the savory taste of garlic and the salty goodness. This combination adds a flavorful kick to your food, making it a popular choice.

How Do I Store Garlic?

To maintain and preserve the flavor of your granulated garlic, you should store it in a well-ventilated pantry or a basket on the kitchen counter. You should avoid storing it in the refrigerator, as the moisture can lead to sprouting and mold.

Can I Freeze Granulated Garlic?

Freezing granulated garlic is not recommended. The texture and flavor of granulated garlic can be adversely affected by freezing and thawing. Since granulated garlic is a dry and finely ground product, moisture absorption can lead to clumping and a change in texture.
