I am answering this question because there are still quite a few people asking if there is a hamburger that they can eat on the keto or low-carb lifestyle.

For some people, it is natural that every burger is keto because most hamburgers or burgers generally contain minced meat only.

But there are so many products in the supermarket containing flour and various other ingredients you would not even think of. 

If you make a homemade burger and know precisely what you put in, you can ensure it is keto or low-carb.

What do you call a Bun-less Burger?

The definition of a bunless burger is a burger without a bun.

As we all know, all the fast-food restaurants serving burgers offer various bread buns where the burger is placed in the middle and layered with extras like bacon, cheese, and whatever.

But the bun is always there. It has been like this in fast-food restaurants until the last few years when more healthy approaches and lifestyles were introduced.

Nowadays, you will find so many fast-food chains offering keto burgers or burgers without a bun.

They usually replace the bun with salad leaves and wrap it in plastic paper.

You can decorate those patties with whatever you wish, like cheese, veggies, bacon, tomatoes, and onion, and you can wrap them in salad leaves or any of the vegetable leaves. The great idea is to grill portobello mushroom buns and use those. 

Use big tomatoes cut in half, slices of baked pumpkins or avocado as the buns replacement to enjoy for breakfast as an avocado burger.

You can also use burgers or patties as buns. Use two burgers; in the middle, you can layer them with cheese, veggies, tomatoes, pickles, bacon, and whatever you wish and desire.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BEST BACON BURGER ON A GRILL

First Step: Prepare Ingredients

First, prepare all the ingredients together for an easy assembly.

Place minced meat into a bigger ball, where you can mix everything else later.

Cut 10 to 12 slices of bacon strips into small pieces.

Second Step: Caramelize Onion

Heat your skillet to medium-high heat and caramelize the onion. Cut it into small squares as the first step. Caramelizing the onion helps the burgers hold together and adds a bit of sweetness to them.

Third Step: Add Bacon and Garlic

Once you caramelize the onion halfway, add bacon pieces and freshly cut garlic.

Fourth Step: Cook 

Cook the bacon with garlic on a skillet over medium heat until the bacon is fully cooked.

Once all onions, chopped bacon, and garlic are fully cooked, let them cool and add into a big bowl with bacon grease where you have already placed your ground beef.

Fifth Step: Add Spices

Add all the spices from the recipes, such as marjoram, oregano, curcuma, salt, and pepper. 

You can also use fresh herbs if you have those in your garden or any additional seasonings you like.

Sixth Step: Mix 

Using a wooden spatula, thoroughly mix the meat mixture with bacon, onions, garlic, and all the herbs.

Seventh Step: Shape 

Once thoroughly mixed, use your hands to shape the mixture into 6 equal burgers.

Eight Step: Grill 

Depending on where you’re planning to grill, heat the grill or oven and place the burgers on a grill grate for grilling.

Grill burger buns for approximately 10 minutes, cook time, and turn the sites.

Cook the patties for another 10 minutes internal temperature on your thermometer reaches 155°F, and you are done.

Ninth Step: Decorate 

Once all the burgers are grilled, it is time for you to decorate.

Use whatever vegetables you would like to add, some salad leaves, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles, cheese, basil pesto as I have used in our case, and whatever additional you desire.

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Juicy Burgers – adding more bacon makes those bunless burgers perfectly juicy. You can certainly add much more, as I suggest. You can also use ground chuck for a lean meat to fat ratio. 
  • Spice up – adding a bit of jalapeño or cayenne pepper or a few drops of Tabasco will add to those burgers’ spiciness.
  • Onion – Caramelizing the onion helps those burgers hold together perfectly and adds some sweetness to them. 
  • Herbs – You can add some fresh herbs if you have those in your garden or any additional seasonings you like to use.
  • Meat – Use ham for a juicy hamburger patty.

What To Serve With Bacony Burgers?

You should also try Cholula buffalo sauce , Moroccan chermoula sauce or best chimichurri recipe, which supposes to go mostly on steaks, but I dissagree.

Can I Cook The Burgers In The Oven?

As I have mentioned, those burgers are ideally done on the outdoor grill, kitchen grill, stove top, grill pan, or oven. 

If you want to bake those bacon burgers in the oven:

  1. Heat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit to 400°f.
  2. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the patties onto the baking sheet.
  3. Place into the oven and cook the burgers for approximately 20 minutes, turning them once in the middle of the time.

Ultimately, you can broil them for 2 minutes on each side.

Can I Turn This Recipe Into a Classic Bacon Cheeseburger?

You can alternate ingredients and add whatever you prefer. Cheese can be shredded and mixed into the burger, or you can place a slice of cheese on top of the patty. The choice is yours. 

How Do I Store BBQ Bacon Burgers?

Even though those bacon burgers are best to eat straight after being grilled, you can store them later as well.

If you have already grilled them, it is best to place them into an airtight container and straight into your fridge, where they should stay for approximately 2 to 3 days no longer.

If you want to keep them and use them later on, they should go directly into the freezer.

Can I Freeze Juicy Burger Patty?

You can freeze our Keto burgers or any other burgers, but I suggest freezing the raw mixture. 

As the burgers taste the best when freshly grilled, it is much better to thaw the mixture once you are ready to grill on the day you need it.

If you have already grilled all the burgers and would like to store them, that is also an option.

Cover each burger with parchment paper and place it all into a Ziploc bag and directly into the freezer for effortless maneuvers.
