STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOW-CARB ENCHILADA SAUCE

First step: Prepare ingredients

First, prepare all of your ingredients. The broth could be chicken, bone, beef, etc. The best is homemade and whatever you have on hand. Tomato sauce would be best without additional ingredients to keep on track with carbs.

Regarding oil, I have used avocado oil, but you can swap that with extra virgin olive oil if that is what you are used to.

Coconut flour can also be replaced with un-fattened almond flour.

Once you see the coconut flour turning light brown, add the seasoning and a little broth. Simmer the sauce slightly for all of the ingredients to combine.

Add the tomato sauce and mix. Finish with the rest of the broth and simmer.

Fourth step: Xanthan gum and vinegar

Last go in the vinegar and xanthan gum.

Xanthan gum dissolves once the soup is cooking, but whisking it generously, helps dearly.

Bring the sauce to a boil and cook for 5 to 10 minutes or until the sauce starts slightly thickening.

Fifth step: Blend

Once your sauce is cooked, take a hand blender and blend all of the sauce into one smooth uniformed sauce.

By blending it, you will realize the red color changes and becomes much brighter.

Remove the sauce from the heat, and remember the sauce thickens further.

Use immediately or store in a glass container.

What are the best gluten free low carb keto tortillas for enchiladas?

Especially for keto enchiladas, I have made our keto tortillas to use.

But a great alternative would be taco shells, flaxseed wraps, or fiber tortillas, all homemade and easy to make following our recipes.

How do you thicken enchilada sauce without flour?

Enchilada sauce can be thickened without using flour by adding simple ingredients.

Coconut flour or un-fattened almond flour is an excellent thickening agent and can thicken the sauce without adding additional flavor.

Another way to thicken the sauce is to use pureed vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, or peppers. Simply puree the vegetables in a food processor and add them to your enchilada sauce, then cook until the desired consistency is reached.

Finally, if you want an even thicker texture, you can add a pinch of xanthan gum to the sauce.

Whichever method you choose, these tips will help you achieve a perfectly thick enchilada sauce without having to use any flour.

What can I use instead of enchilada sauce?

If you don’t have enchilada sauce on hand, you can easily substitute simple ingredients. For example, combine one cup of tomato sauce with one tablespoon each of chili powder and cumin, then add salt and pepper to taste.

Add other flavors, such as garlic or onion powder, oregano, or paprika, for extra spice. If you want the sauce to be creamier, consider adding a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt.

Another option is to use mild salsa instead of the tomato-based sauce – just adjust the seasoning to taste. These substitutes are easy to make and will work in place of traditional enchilada sauce.

How do you store keto Mexican sauce?

When it comes to storing Mexican keto sauce, the best way is to store it in an air-tight container like a jar or a Tupperware container. This will help keep the flavor and texture of the sauce intact while also preventing any bacteria from entering the sauce. Also, store the sauce in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, best in the fridge.

Can you freeze keto enchilada sauce?

If you do not plan on consuming the sauce immediately, you can freeze it for longer-term storage. When reheating frozen keto Mexican sauce, make sure to do so slowly and over low heat to prevent changes in flavor and texture. Proper storage techniques allow you to enjoy your Mexican keto sauces for weeks without worrying about spoilage.
