It is funny how the easiest recipes become the most popular. This gorgeous dip is perfect not only with various Taco dishes but can be used as a dip with Keto Chips of your choice.  

What is Salsa?

Salsa is a Mexican flavor tomato-based sauce filled with fresh cilantro, onion, garlic, lime, and jalapenos used either for Tacos and Taco dishes. It is also popular as a dip with Tortilla Chips. 

Tortilla Chips and Salsa is the most appetizer in any of the Mexican restaurants around the world. 

Salsa is also a sauce used in various Mexican dishes such as Tamales, Chilaquiles, or Enchiladas.

Carbs in Salsa

As I have already mentioned, store-bought salsa, sugar-free or not might contain added sugar or sugar sweeteners plus preservatives. It is very important to read all of the labels once you are ready to purchase one in your grocery store.

Our Homemade Salsa contains only 3 grams of carbs per serving. 

Tomatoes already have natural sugar in them and there is no reason to add more sugar. 

One tip – sometimes canned and peeled tomatoes contain much fewer carbs than fresh ones. But it all depends on the brand of the canned tomatoes.

Is Salsa Keto Friendly?

Store-bought Salsa, whether normal or sugar-free, has most of the time added sugar for extra flavors. It is seldom that you can find salsa in the shop with only natural ingredients that fully suit the Keto lifestyle. 

Homemade Sugar-Free Salsa

That is the reason we always make salsa at home. And especially, since it only takes 5 minutes prep time, there is no reason to buy one anymore. 

Our Homemade Keto Salsa is made with fresh and natural ingredients and lasts in the fridge for up to a week. 

And additionally, to that, you can choose to have your salsa chunky like Tomato Pico de Gallo, or smooth. How easy is that?

As you see in the recipe, I have decided to add our Taco Seasoning in for that real Mexican flavor. You can choose to make your own in a few minutes even if you do not have Taco Seasoning Packets on hand.

Can Keto Salsa be canned?

Some might wonder if you can preserve Salsa even if it does not contain added sugar or preservatives. 

The answer is an absolute yes. And you can use my easiest canning method described below. 

Canning Keto Salsa

Canning your Salsa is a perfect way of storing it for much longer. Preserving Salsa saves you space in your freezer or fridge and that is the main reason, I use this method most of the time. 

Salsa either normal, Sugar-Free, or Keto Can be preserved by canning it as well.

How To Preserve Keto Salsa?

There are 3 main methods of canning and preserving starting from the boiling water method, steam canning method, or pressure canner method. 

But my easiest tip for canning is to fill your Mason Jars with the ready-made sauce, close the lids, and place them into the dishwasher for one cycle at a high temperature. 

This easy preserving method is something I have learned from my mum and is the only way I am canning everything. 

How To Make Keto Salsa?

Kitchen Gadgets needed:

  • Glass Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Magic Bullet or a Food Processor – Optional

Ingredients needed:

  • Canned Tomatoes
  • Lime Juice
  • Red Onion
  • Cilantro
  • Salt
  • Garlic
  • Taco Seasoning
  • Jalapeno

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BEST KETO SALSA RECIPE

First Step: Ingredients for Keto Salsa

Prepare all of the Ingredients needed. 

You can substitute Canned Tomatoes with fresh ones. 

The amount of Jalapenos depends on your taste buds. 

Chop Cilantro fully and cut all other ingredients into small pieces.

Second Step: Gather ingredients one by one into a bowl

Using a bigger bowl, start adding all of the needed ingredients.

Start with canned or fresh tomatoes, followed by chopped onions, cilantro, garlic, and jalapenos.

Third Step: Continue adding spices

Continue by adding Taco Seasoning, half a teaspoon of salt, and freshly squeezed juice from a lime.

Fourth Step: Mix all

Using your spatula, combine all of the ingredients for Salsa by mixing them fully. 

Make sure everything is fully combined.

Fifth Step: Optional Mixing smooth

The last step is options, depending on how you like your salsa texture to be. You can stop at the fourth step and leave everything chunky, or you can place all of the Salsa into the Magic Bullet or a Food Processor and mix it fully into a smooth consistency. 

Tips and tricks:

  • Tomatoes – you can choose from using canned or fresh tomatoes
  • Jalapenos – the amount you add into the Salsa, depends on the strength of spiciness you like 
  • Texture – Pick from chunky or smooth consistency depending on which one you personally prefer. 
  • Seasoning – if you do not have taco seasoning on hand, enchilada seasoning works great as well.

Can Salsa go bad?

Any homemade sauce, where no additional preservatives are added can go bad and that is true for Keto Salsa as well. 

But with the right storage or preserving method, your Salsa can have a really long life shell. 

How long does Homemade Salsa last?

Homemade Salsa lasts for approximately 5-6 days stored in a Mason Jar or a sealed container in your refrigerator.

How to store Salsa?

There are 3 choices where you can store our Sugar-Free Salsa. 

  1. You can store it for up to 5-6 days in your fridge.
  2. Placed in the glass container in your freezer, the longevity could be up to 6 months.
  3. Canning or preserving with various methods as mentioned above can give you the long shelf for approximately a year or more. 

Can Salsa be frozen?

Of course, Salsa as any of the sauces such as enchilada sauce, Keto or not can be frozen in a sealed container. 

What to eat with Salsa?

This perfect Quick and Easy Salsa can be sprinkled over Keto Tacos, Taco Cups, or Taco Salad. It could also be added into Salad Dressing to give you that Mexican blend.
