How Many Carbs Do Easy Keto Buns Have?

When following easy keto bun recipes, you’ll find that the carb content can vary depending on the ingredients used and the number of buns you will make. Some prefer them smaller, some bigger.

We like to make these buns small to medium, and I have made 12 buns using our recipe.

Considering this, one bun has 4 grams of carbs and 3 grams of fiber, totaling 1 gram of net carbs per bun.

What Key Ingredients Are Used in Low Carb Keto Buns?

  • Nuts and seeds: Including a variety of seeds and nuts in the recipe adds flavor and texture and introduces a range of beneficial nutrients and healthy fats that support a balanced and nutritious low-carb and keto diet.
  • Psyllium husk powder, often used as a binding agent, helps to add moisture and improve the texture of the buns. Combined with other ingredients, it contributes to the airy and light consistency.
  • Eggs bind the ingredients together and add moisture to the dough. They also contribute to the fluffy texture of the buns, ensuring they rise properly during baking.
  • Coconut flour: Coconut flour is another key ingredient in keto buns, contributing to the fluffy texture and helping to absorb moisture in the dough, resulting in a lighter and more airy bun.
  • Coconut oil adds moisture and richness to the buns while contributing to their softness. It also hints coconut flavor that pairs well with the other ingredients.
  • Vinegar: Vinegar helps the leavening process, making the buns light and fluffy. It also enhances the overall flavor and helps in creating a balanced taste.
  • Water: Water is necessary to hydrate the dry ingredients and form the dough for the buns. It helps bind the ingredients together and ensures proper texture and moisture in the final product.

Coconut Flour vs. Almond Flour

There are many differences between those two popular flours used in our lifestyle, so I have made a complete full post about almond flour vs. coconut flour

In short, coconut flour is highly absorbent and requires more moisture, resulting in a denser texture. On the other hand, almond flour provides a lighter and more bread-like consistency, making it a preferred choice for keto buns. It also offers a subtly sweet flavor that complements various burger fillings.

I have chosen coconut flour in this recipe instead of almond flour I use most of the time.

Using Psyllium Husk Powder For Burger Bun Recipe

Psyllium husk powder is a fantastic ingredient in a burger bun recipe. It acts as a binding agent, absorbing moisture and making the buns fluffy and bread-like.

Let the dough rest and hydrate before shaping and baking the buns.

One point to consider is the brand of psyllium husk you are going to use, as some might make your buns turn purple.

What Is the Consistency of These Perfect Keto Buns?

Those keto buns should have a light and airy consistency, resembling traditional hamburger buns.

The consistency of those buns ensures that they can hold your burger fillings and toppings while still providing delicious buns without carbs.

Toppings for Best Keto Burger Buns

These buns offer endless possibilities when it comes to toppings.

Consider toppings like lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and sugar-free condiments such as mustard or mayonnaise for a classic burger experience.

Try avocado slices, twisted bacon, sautéed mushrooms, or melted cheese for a gourmet twist. Additionally, you can experiment with low-carb sauces, spicy jalapeños, or even a fried egg to take your keto burger buns to the next level.

Fifth Step: Shaping and Baking

Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, and shape the dough into small balls. Place the balls onto a lined baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Using the palm of your hand, gently press down on each ball to flatten and form a bun shape.

You can also sprinkle some seeds on top of the buns at this stage.

Place the baking sheet with the shaped buns into the oven. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes at 175 Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit or until the buns are golden brown and baked through.
