Dehydrating your food is one of the best ways to preserve your produce for the whole year. It transforms fruits into a perfect snack, vegetables into great chips to nib on, and meats for a perfect protein go-to meal.
Raspberries are one of the seasonal berry fruits that belong to our lifestyle as they contain the least amount of carbohydrates while still offering a lovely flavor.
The downside of raspberries is that they do not stay fresh for a very long time after harvesting. Therefore we try to use them as soon as they are ripe.
But comes the season when you get the best ripe flavor and lots of them, and if you are like me, try to find the best way to preserve them for the whole year.
And precisely for this comes our dehydrating recipe.
Dehydrating your raspberries will capture the ripe raspberry flavor and preserve your raspberries for the whole year.
Are Raspberries keto?
Raspberries are one of the fruits that are highly recommended when following a keto or low carb lifestyle for their least amount of carbs. Of all the berry varieties, raspberries have the highest amount of fiber and, together with blueberries, the least amount of carbs.
This leads you to a perfect answer of yes, raspberries are keto.
How many Carbs are in Raspberries?
Raspberries, one of the fruits with the least amount of carbohydrates, should be in your lifestyle as often as possible.
One cup of fresh raspberries contains 14 to 18 grams of carbs, depending on the ripeness state.
Considering fiber, you get a perfect 7 grams of Net Carbs in a cup of raspberries to enjoy.
Raspberry Nutritional Facts
Fresh raspberries contain a minimal amount of calories and no fat at all. Their high amount of fiber and vitamin C brings them to the top of the list of the most favorite and healthiest fruits to consume.
Fiber in Raspberries
As half of the carbohydrate amount contains fiber, it gives us even more reasons why we should eat raspberries as much as possible.
Dehydrated raspberries nutritional facts
The advantage of dehydrating your raspberries is that with the slow process of drying food, most of the valuable vitamins and nutrients stay inside the fruit.
Out of one cup of fresh raspberries, you get half a cup of dehydrated raspberries, which you can enjoy either as a snack or add to your breakfast bowls, yogurts, granola, and much more.
The nutrition facts of a portion of dehydrated raspberries, about 1/4 of a cup, have 39 grams of calories and one gram of protein.
With 9 grams of carbohydrates and 5 grams of fiber, you get a perfect 4 grams of net carbs per portion.
There are various ways you can preserve your raspberries or any berries.
One of the most popular options to preserve your raspberries is by drying them.
Ways to dry raspberries
There are various ways to dry your freshly picked raspberries as well, and the options are:
Dehydrator – by following the recipe further.
Oven – similar steps to using a dehydrator. Dry them in the oven at 80 Celsius or 170 Fahrenheit for 7 to 8 hours.
Freeze dry – using a freeze-drying machine
Air fryer – some of the air fryers has got a dehydrating option
Natural Sun-drying – placing your strawberries in a shaded area in the garden for a day.
How do dehydrated raspberries taste?
The taste of dehydrated raspberries is delicious. With the first bite, you get almost no taste or flavor, but the inside will surprise you with all the sweetness and chewiness.
How long does it take to dehydrate raspberries?
To dehydrate whole raspberries takes much longer than slices of strawberries for its water content. After approximately 10 to 12 hours and swapping the trays every 2 to 3 hours, I had my raspberries perfectly dry.
If I had planned to preserve them for a more extended period in a mason jar, I would probably add an extra 2-3 hours to ensure they will not go bad after a while.
At what temperature to dehydrate raspberries?
After a few experiments, I found that 70 Celsius or 160 Fahrenheits is a perfect temperature to dehydrate your raspberries.
How to condition dehydrated raspberries for storage?
Conditioning or curing your dry fruits before they are stored for longer helps in preventing the dried fruits from getting bad sooner than you might have imagined.
With conditioning for a week, the dry fruits take out some moisture from fruits that have not been thoroughly dried.
To condition your berries, place the dehydrated raspberries into a mason jar and gently shake daily to separate the pieces for the conditioning to work. Check for moisture as well. After about a week, you can store them for longer.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING DRIED RASPBERRIES
First Step: Prepare your Raspberries
Pick the best raspberries you can, without any bad spots.
Wash them and let them dry thoroughly on a kitchen towel. You can additionally soak them in a mixture of water and vinegar to kill all of the germs and beginners’ mold.
Your raspberries need to be fully dry not to have to prolong the dehydrating process.
Second Step: Dehydrator Trays
Once you have picked your raspberries and dried them fully, place them onto dehydrating trays, leaving the spaces in between for the air to circulate freely.
If you have very soft raspberries, you can use liners for the dehydrator trays, so they do not fall onto the bottom of the dehydrator.
Third Step: Dehydrate
Dehydrate for 10 to 12 hours, making sure you swap the trays every two to three hours.
To shorten the drying time, you can cut your raspberries in half. Time also depends on the size and ripeness of your raspberries. Once you feel they are done, taste one as the inside might still be soft and not dry, and decide accordingly.
Tips and Tricks:
Wash – soak in water with vinegar mixture to get rid of any starting mold
Liners – use liners for dehydrating trays if raspberries are very soft
Fully dry – to shorten the dehydrating time
Store – condition for a week to get rid of any humidity
Shortening dehydrating time – cut your raspberries into half
