Best Blueberry Recipes
I have made a few low-carb blueberry recipes here on my blog, and some became my favorite go-to dessert.
The first blueberry recipe I made was a no-bake wild blueberry cheesecake that I regularly make for birthdays or Holidays. Throughout the summer, when blueberries are in season, a blueberry sheet pan cake and a blueberry bundt cake are on a weekly rotation.
When snacking or restocking your pantry, I also have a recipe for dehydrating blueberries. If you are planning to store your blueberries for a long time, here is a guide on how to freeze blueberries.
Chocolate Blueberries
If you wonder how sweet blueberries and chocolate taste together, you can imagine a close taste from eating chocolate-covered strawberries.
Combining chocolate and blueberries is another way to enjoy your fruit snack if you had enough of eating those berries alone. You can even use excess chunks of chocolate left from your fridge to coat your blueberries.
Why Dark Chocolate?
Dark chocolate is considered the best choice for coating blueberries for several reasons, especially when you want to achieve a balanced flavor profile in your chocolate-covered blueberries.
Reasons why dark chocolate is the best choice:
- Intense Flavor
- Less Sugar
- Low-Carb Option
- Great Texture
- Less Milky
- Versatile
Can I Pair Blueberry And Espresso?
Pairing blueberries with or without chocolate and espresso can create an unexpected flavor combination. There are a few recipes where your blueberries and espresso can go well together. Here are some of them:
- Blueberry Espresso Smoothie – blend frozen blueberries, yogurt, low-carb sweetener, and ice cubes. It creates a refreshing and energizing smoothie with the perfect balance of fruity sweetness and coffee kick.
- Blueberry Espresso Muffins – the combination of the rich coffee flavor with bursts of juicy blueberries can make a great breakfast or snack.
- Blueberry Espresso Dessert Parfait – layer blueberry puree with espresso-flavored whipped cream or mascarpone cheese in a glass to create a visually appealing and tasty dessert parfait.
- Blueberry Espresso Chocolate Truffles – combine blueberries and espresso into a dark chocolate truffle mixture. Roll the truffles in cocoa powder or chopped nuts for a treat that combines fruity, coffee, and chocolate flavors.
How To Make Chocolate Covered Blueberries
I will walk you through the simple steps to make homemade chocolate blueberries. Make this recipe as it is one of the easiest dessert snacks you can make at home and only needs three ingredients. Let’s get into it.
Kitchen Gadgets Needed:
- Instant Pot – This isn’t your usual tool for this job, but it can melt chocolate and keep it warm for dipping – a handy twist.
- Glass Bowl – An essential and crucial item, this bowl is where the magic happens. It’s perfect for melting and smoothing out the chocolate.
- Sieve – Think of the sieve as your blueberry picker-upper. It helps you scoop up all chocolate-coated blueberries.
- Long Tweezers or Thongs – These are like your chocolate-dipping wands. They gently pick up each blueberry, ensuring they get the perfect chocolate coat.
Ingredients Needed:
- Fresh Blueberries – fresh and plump blueberries work best for this recipe. They bring a burst of juiciness to each chocolate-coated bite. You can also opt for dried blueberries, but you will lose that freshness.
- Coconut Oil – a touch of coconut oil helps to create a smooth and glossy chocolate coating, showing the overall texture of our treat.
- Dark chocolate – look for a bar of high-quality and sugar-free dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa content. It ensures a rich, intense chocolate flavor without unnecessary sugars.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHOCOLATE COVERED BLUEBERRIES RECIPE
First Step: Prepare Ingredients
The first thing to do is wash and pat dry the blueberries. Make sure they are completely dry to help the chocolate combine properly.
Prepare your sugar-free chocolate. If you are using a chocolate bar, slice them into small pieces so they will melt quicker. Instead of chopped chocolate, you can also use dark chocolate chips for easy melting.
Depending on your choice, you can use a bar of milk chocolate or white chocolate, but for me, it is best to use a dark one.
Second Step: Melt The Chocolate
Switch your instant pot on sauté, add water and let it simmer. Place the bowl that fits on top. Place the chocolate and coconut oil together in a glass bowl and start melting the chocolates. Stir the chocolate with a stick or spoon until the chocolate is completely melted, smooth, and well combined.
You can also melt the chocolates in a microwave-safe bowl over a saucepan or a double boiler.
Third Step: Dip The Blueberries
After a few minutes, dip each blueberry into the melted chocolate using long tweezers or thongs, ensuring it is evenly coated. Place each on a tray with parchment paper.
Fourth Step: Coat a Large Batch Of Blueberries
If you do not have enough time to dip each blueberry, you can drop them all together. Place 1 cup of blueberries into the melted chocolate, ensuring they are all evenly coated.
Use a sieve to get the blueberries from the bottom of the bowl and transfer each to a parchment-lined tray. Make sure to make a space in between the berries so they won’t stick together.
Pop the tray into the fridge and let the chocolate-covered blueberries chill until the chocolate hardens.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Sweetener – if you use dark chocolate and want to balance the bitterness and sweetness, add a little sweetener or sugar substitute.
- Toothpick technique – using a toothpick or fork makes dipping much more manageable. It is best in case you do not have long tweezers or thongs.
- Add coatings – do not limit your creativity and make additional coatings. You can roll your chocolate blueberries in crushed nuts, coconut flakes, or even a sprinkle of sea salt for an extra layer of flavor and texture.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
What To Serve With Chocolate Coated Fresh Blueberries?
Serve your chocolate blueberries with sugar-free whipped cream to make them creamy and exciting. You can also try it with yogurt on the side for the tanginess to complement the sweetness of the blueberries and chocolate.
It is also best paired with hot or cold brewed coffee, as the rich flavors match the chocolate. Try serving your chocolate-coated blueberries with a scoop of ice cream since the cold and creamy ice cream complements the chocolatey berries.
Store your chocolate-covered blueberries in an airtight container and refrigerate. The cold temperature will help the rich chocolate coating stay firm and prevent melting. It is especially important if you have used ingredients like coconut oil in your chocolate coating.
Can I Freeze Blueberries?
While storing the chocolate blueberries in the refrigerator is usually enough, you can also freeze chocolate-covered blueberries for longer-term storage. Simply place them in a single layer on a tray and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container.
To thaw, transfer the frozen chocolate blueberries to the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. It prevents condensation from forming on the chocolate, which can lead to a less appealing appearance.

Wow, this is wonderful! This is a good way to introduce blueberries to kids (who wouldn’t eat it). Such a good idea. My son loved it, and so did I. Thanks for the idea x
So happy you did.
The dark chocolate pairs really well with the sweetness from blueberries. Really really tasty! And the coconut oil just enhances the overall flavor. I’m thinking of putting these in a cute jar with a pretty ribbon and it would already look like a really thoughtful gift!
Yes, they are perfect gift. Just remember, that fresh blueberries do not last that long.
